The social welfare group promoting the role of pro-life women in politics bought airtime for an ad featuring an abortion survivor during President Barack Obama’s acceptance speech Thursday night at the Democrat’s national convention in Charlotte.

Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said, “President Obama and the Democratic Party platform represent a position on abortion so extreme, voters should question the president’s honesty in committing to finding ‘common ground’ in the last general election.”

In the ad, with the lines, “I am going to tell you something you might not know: Many children, more than you might think, actually survive failed abortions,” Melissa Ohden — an abortion survivor — shares her own story and challenges Obama’s own role in the Illinois state senate, where he opposed legislation designed to protect infants who survive abortions, said Mallory Quigley, the communications director for the Susan B. Anthony List.

Dannenfelser said the vast majority of Americans oppose abortions for sex-selection and late-term abortions when the baby can feel pain.

“Opposing the sex selection and post-fetal pain abortion bans voted on in the House of Representatives are minority stances among women and all Americans,” she said.

“Voting four times against measures that would provide equal protection to children accidentally born alive after a failed abortion is a clear minority stance.”

“Requiring Americans to pay for abortion through their taxes is a minority view as well. Where is that ground he is standing? It is uncommon, callous, lonely ground,” Dannenfelser said.

Last week the ad ran across Missouri as part of a $150,000 television ad campaign to expose President Obama’s record on abortion in a state that had recently been at the center of a conversation on abortion.

Quigley said the Ohden ad is the first in a series exposing President Obama’s extremist record on abortion.

The $42,000 ad buy will run in the Charlotte media market on all major networks, she said.

The SBA List has additional ads being considered for release in North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin, she said.

This week, the SBA List is in the midst of a five state “Women Speak Out: Abortion is Not Health Care” bus tour that has drawn attention to President Obama’s extreme record on abortion, Quigley said.
