Obama Still Doesn't Get 9/11

In my new article, I reflect on how President Obama brags about having Osama bin Laden killed while being unable to tell us why Osama had nearly 3,000 Americans killed eleven years ago today.

Earlier today, President Obama commemorated the attacks of September 11, 2001 by speaking at the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington, Virginia.

I am sorry to say that our Commander-in-Chief simply doesn't get what happened that Tuesday morning. His remarks reinforce the argument I made in my article. Obama said, "Al Qaeda's leadership has been devastated and Osama bin Laden will never threaten us again."

Osama himself may never threaten us but his words live on and they are still very much a threat to us. Let's not forget that 12 soldiers and a civilian physician's assistant were murdered at Fort Hood by a traitor who shouted "Allahu Akbar!!!" The Obama Administration had the audacity to tell us it was nothing more than an act of "workplace violence". When our soldiers die on our own soil because of an act of Islamic jihad and President Obama refuses to call it such, it tells me that he is incapable of calling evil by its name.

President Obama went on to say:

Scripture tells us "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." There's no better way to honor the best in those who died than by discovering the best in ourselves.

It's all well and good to spend the anniversary of the September 11th attacks painting a mural celebrating our diversity. But if we want to overcome evil with good, we have to do four things. First, we must acknowledge there is evil. Second, we must understand the ideology behind this evil and in this particular case this involves understanding its religious and political components. Third, we must be prepared to confront and defeat this evil. Fourth, even if we triumph over the man responsible for bringing about this evil it doesn't mean the evil dies with him.

At best, President Obama gets a one out of four. He acknowledges that al Qaeda is evil but does not tell us why it is evil. The problem is Obama's tendency towards moral equivalence. Surely the Iranian government murdering its own people for daring to trying to vote someone else into office is evil. But Obama's first instinct was to tell us it was not our place to speak out or, as he put it, to meddle.

Evil is, of course, is in the eye of the beholder. Given President Obama's disposition towards the business community in this country is it really a stretch to say that he also considers corporations to be evil as well? Most of his voting base certainly does.

In the final analysis, President Obama's words leave me empty and cold.
