Poll: Wisconsin Voters Now Oppose Walker Recall By 11-Point Margin

Ever since they announced their intention to do so, I've been publicly begging Leftists to waste spend tens of millions on a recall campaign against Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. I was convinced that the Democrat-Union coalition would squander precious campaign resources in an quixotic bid to exact revenge on one of their most despised conservative bogeymen. A new poll from Rasmussen suggests that my instincts were correct. Wisconsinites -- who have voted to re-elect a conservative state Supreme Court justice and to protect a Republican State Senate majority since Walker's budget fix passed -- now oppose replacing the governor by an 11-point margin:

Fifty-four percent of Wisconsinites oppose the recall of Gov. Scott Walker, according to the most recent polling data from Rasmussen Reports. In a phone survey of 500 likely voters, Rasmussen also said 52% at least somewhat approve of Walker’s job performance to date, while 46% at least somewhat disapprove. The findings include 40% who strongly approve and 40% who strongly disapprove. By party, the poll revealed that 78% of Republican voters strongly approve of Walker’s performance and 73% of Democrats strongly disapprove.

Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 58% at least somewhat approve of Walker’s performance, including 36% who strongly approve. Forty-three percent say they would vote to recall Walker and remove him from office, but 54% would vote against recall; 80% of the state’s Democratic voters would vote to remove Walker, but 89% of Republicans and 58% of unaffiliated voters would oppose that recall.

Badger State Democrats are less united behind the recall push than Republicans are against it, and independents have helped nudge Walker's overall job approval into the black. Nearly 6 in 10 Wiscy indies would vote to retain the governor, whose inexpiable Crime Against Humanity was to fulfill a campaign promise by passing a responsible budget package. Walker waded into this fight with an ad campaign last fall, and his brand new spot picks up right where he left off -- reminding voters that his controversial program is working exactly as planned:

But by all means, Wisconsin Lefties, please keep up the excellent, expensive work. It's not like your hand-picked Senate candidate is losing to all three possible Republican opponents, or anything. Solution: More shrieking!
