Liberal racism
It’s all about power.

Two remarkable examples of racist behavior from prominent liberals are in the news today. First up, the Daily Caller has video of actor Tom Hanks and Eagles musician Glenn Frey cavorting on stage with a white investment banker who was wearing blackface, a leopard-print toga, an armband made of animal teeth, and a huge Afro wig.
Among other “jokes,” Frey remarks that the school where the fundraiser was hosted – St. Matthew’s Parish School in Pacific Palisades, California – is “so conservative” that the blackface actor “was almost not allowed in.” Because it’s funny when liberals stand next to an absurd racist caricature and imply that other people are racists!
This happened at a fundraising auction in 2004, a bygone era when the national debt was less than half what it is today. It’s particularly relevant today because Hanks just got finished providing the narration to a hagiographical video for the Obama 2012 campaign. A distinctly unamused Niger Innis of the Congress of Racial Equality called on Obama to remove Hanks’ narration from his campaign film and denounce the actor for co-operating in the “orchestrated racist activity” depicted in the video.
The Daily Caller got the tape from a woman who expressed her disgust at Hanks’ “sharp-elbowed partisanship” and pointed out that he would be “the first to scream ‘racist’ if a conservative put their arm around a ‘Wall Street Banker’ in blackface while their co-emcee made racist remarks.”
Meanwhile, actor Robert DeNiro was knocking ‘em dead at an Obama campaign fundraiser in New York City, attended by First Lady Michelle Obama. DeNiro offered the following hilarious “joke”: “Callista Gingrich, Karen Santorum, Ann Romney. Now, do you really think our country is ready for a white first lady?”
There was much laughter from the well-heeled Obama donors, who paid at least five thousand dollars a seat for the performance according to the UK Daily Mail. Of course, every one of these insufferable hypocrites would preen all day about their exquisite racial sensitivity and general philosophical enlightenment… on any other day.
Callista Gingrich’s husband, speaking from the campaign trail in Louisiana, was quick to call out the Obama campaign, as reported at The Hill:
“I do want to say one thing, both on behalf of my wife and on behalf of Karen Santorum and on behalf of Ann Romney — I think that Robert De Niro’s wrong,” Newt Gingrich said. “I think the country is ready for a new first lady, and he doesn’t have to describe it in racial terms.”
Gingrich went on to demand that President Obama apologize for the comments.
“What De Niro said last night was inexcusable, and the president should apologize for him,” Gingrich said. “It was at an Obama fundraiser, it is exactly wrong, it divides the country. If people on the left want to talk about talk show hosts, then everybody in the country should hold the president accountable when someone at his event says something that is as utterly and terribly unacceptable as what Robert De Niro said.”
Liberals seeking to excuse the behavior of Hanks, Frey, and DeNiro would, if backed into a corner, insist that their political correctness insulates them from the sin of racism. Someone who supports the re-election of Barack Obama is, by definition, incapable of racist thought. The same consideration would never be granted to a supporter of Herman Cain, of course.
In a similar vein, liberals will bristle at the use of the term “racism” to describe DeNiro’s disgusting “joke,” since racial discrimination against white people is impossible. They have too much intrinsic power to be “victims” in a racial context. The oppressors cannot be oppressed.
Likewise, divisive rhetoric in support of a liberal politician is acceptable, because electing liberals is a transcendent purpose. Supporting the use of coercive force for virtuous ends guarantees there cannot be racism “lurking in your heart.” Only through the exercise of political power can the true inner self be expressed.
On the other hand, someone like Governor Rick Perry is perpetually assumed guilty of emitting racist “dog whistles,” and forever accountable for anything unpleasant written on certain rocks in Texas, because liberal telepaths can see into his heart too, and you’ll have to take their word for the ugliness they found.
The Left is all about power. Concepts like “racism” have no meaning until they are placed in a power context. Only certain people can be racists, or victims. It’s a very ugly world-view, which is why so many people must go thousands of dollars into debt so their kids can hear prettied-up versions of it from tenured professors.
