Bachmann: Obama Is ‘Health Care Dictator’

Bachmann: Obama Is ‘Health Care Dictator’

(CNSNews.com) Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said Wednesday that President Barack Obama has become a “health care dictator” who believes he can order what types of health-care services people can and cannot get in the United States.

“The issue with Obamacare isn’t what we’re going to get, the bigger issue with Obamacare is what will be taken away, because we have now one person who’s a health dictator in our country and that health care dictator will decide what we get and what we don’t get,” Bachmann told CNSNews.com at the Capitol on Wednesday.

“Because the bigger issue is that we will see the president of the United States deciding that people won’t be getting hip replacements or knee replacements or, you name it,” said Bachmann. “Aren’t breast cancer drugs for women also as important, maybe even more so [than birth control]?”

CNSNews.com had asked Bachmann about Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke’s Feb. 23 testimony before the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. “Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke told Congress contraception can cost a woman over $3,000 in law school if her insurance doesn’t cover it," CNSNews.com asked. "Yet the Target store 3 miles from Georgetown Law sells a month’s supply of birth control pills for $9 to people whose insurance does not cover the pills. Was Fluke’s testimony accurate?”

“I think that her testimony is her testimony and I don’t question what she said,” Bachmann responded. “The facts on the ground are what cost and supply and demand provide as far as contraceptives are concerned.”

Bachmann said the contraception issue was a “very small example” of what Americans can expect as a result of Obama health reform law, arguing that future presidents will use the authority the federal government has claimed to aid them in getting reelected.

“All this was, was a very small 3-D example of what ObamaCare looks like in the United States today,” Bachmann. “And this is what we’re going to see in the future. We’re going to see in future political elections, presidents are going to come up with a politically popular disease or a politically popular pharmaceutical drug and he or she will be pandering that product before elections.”

The Health and Human Services regulation in question requires all health-care plans in the United States to cover sterilizations and all FDA-approved contraceptives, including those that cause abortion. Because the Catholic Church teaches that these things are wrong and that Catholics cannot be involved in them, the regulation would force Catholics and Catholic institutions to act against their faith.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops have called the regulation an "unprecedented attack on religious freedom" and has called for Obama to rescind it in his entirety.

Bachmann: ‘Not Far-Fetched’ to Say Obamacare Could Limit Family Size

(CNSNews.com) - The problem with Obamacare? "There's nothing that this president -- one person -- would be limited from doing," including possibly limiting the number of children a couple decides to have, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said.

In a Tuesday night interview on Glenn Beck TV's “Real News From The Blaze,” Bachmann noted that "what the government gives, the government can take away.”

"It certainly isn’t beyond the pale to think, in light of Kathleen Sebelius, the Health and Human Services secretary -- she said that it’s important that we have contraceptives because that prevents pregnancy, and pregnancy is more expensive to the federal government.

“Going with that logic, according to our own Health and Human Services secretary, it isn’t far-fetched to think that the president of the United States could say, ‘We need to save health care expenses — the federal government will only pay for one baby to be born in the hospital per family, or two babies to be born per family.’ That could happen. We think it couldn’t?”

Bachmann said under the Democrats' health care law, the president can now "unilaterally can tell insurance companies, you must offer the ma abortion pill, you must offer sterilizations, you must offer contraceptives -- free...because we tell you to, which means they're effectively setting the price as well."

Whoever the "health care dictator" is could issue such orders, she said.

Bachmann said that's how "profound" Obamacare is: "I'm not saying he is going to do it. I'm saying that he has the power and the authority to do it. We don't want anyone to have that level of authority."
