The Solution?

The Solution?
From a senior citizen around 80 yrs. of age. We aren't useless yet.

There recently was an article in the St. Petersburg , Fl. Times. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on: "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new AMERICAN Car. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes..

Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know.

If not, please disregard.

Comment: I don't want to disregard - I wish it was this easy, but I strongly suspect it isn't. The first thing is many people over 50 wouldn't see this as a good deal. Obviously these people shouldn't be forced to participate in this plan if they do not wish to do so, so the overall numbers become smaller probably by a significant amount. I turn 50 next year and I would love to have this choice if it had a chance of working - retire at 50 - are you kidding? Where do I sign? Would the 1 million be tax free? I do believe too many people have to work most of their lives away, but the main reason is health insurance costs.

Maybe with a tweak here or there it could be made to work. Of course we would have to go further in debt to do it, but if the currently unemployed could pick up the slack than it could work and maybe the debt gets paid down quicker instead of constantly rising. Maybe this plan along with some kind of flat tax, eliminating most tax deductions (except charitable), subsidies, and reducing the bloated bureaucracy of our government - as well as getting rid of many useless government regulations, then we would be on our way.

Of course there would be no use for democrats and lobbyists anymore, not that there ever was - BONUS! It's fun to consider. Of course if you do the math, 1 million times 40 million equals 40 Trillion Dollars!!! Where is 40 trillion dollars going to come from? That is the main question.
