Health Care Vote.com Survey Questions

I filled out this online survey today and sent it to our congressional representatives (my answers are in bold italics)

Health Care Vote.com Survey Questions

1. Do you agree or disagree that the federal government should require all Americans to purchase health insurance, or face a fine?

Agree / Disagree

2. Do you agree or disagree that Americans who lose or leave their jobs should be able to stay on their previous employer's health insurance plan?

Agree / Disagree

3. Which statement comes closer to your view?

Statement A: A government-run 'public' health insurance option is needed to create more competition and choice in the health insurance marketplace.

Statement B: The public option is too intrusive into the free market and would eventually drive private health insurers out of business.

4. Do you agree or disagree that health insurers should be allowed to restrict coverage or charge higher premiums for patients with pre-existing conditions?

Agree / Disagree

5. Do you support or oppose a government-run health care system, or 'single-payer' system, where the federal government pays for and provides health care for all Americans?

Support / Oppose

6. An 'employer mandate' would require businesses, including small businesses, to provide health insurance to their employees or face a fine. Some say this would help bring health insurance to more people who don’t have currently have it. Others say that this would harm job creation and economic growth, and force some employers to stop providing their employees with health insurance if it is cheaper for them to pay the fine. Do you support or oppose an 'employer mandate.'

Support / Oppose

7. Currently, medical malpractice insurance costs doctors in some areas of the country up to $200,000 per year, a cost that doctors pass on to their patients in the form of higher fees for service. Do you agree or disagree that tort reform is needed?

Agree / Disagree

8. Do you support or oppose taxing employer-provided health care benefits?
Support / Oppose

9. Currently, Americans may only purchase health insurance from providers licensed in their state. Some say that Americans should be allowed to purchase health insurance from providers in different states, thus creating more competition and driving down the price of health insurance. Do you agree or disagree?
Agree / Disagree

10. Would you support or oppose allowing a government agency or insurance company to consider a patient's age or life-expectancy when deciding whether or not to cover certain medical procedures?

Support / Oppose

11. There are currently 26 million Americans age 18 and older who can afford to purchase health insurance, but choose not to purchase it for a variety of reasons. There are also 12 million illegal immigrants in America who lack health insurance. Do you think taxes should be raised to fund a government-run health insurance program for these people?

Yes / No

12. Some in Congress would like to institute a 5% surtax on people who make more than one million dollars per year in order to pay for health reform. This tax, combined with others, would raise the top marginal tax rate to over 50% in 39 states. Opponents of this surtax say that this tax will hit job producers the most, and slow economic recovery. Proponents of the surtax say that it is needed to cover the cost of providing health insurance to everyone in the U.S. Do you agree or disagree with taxing millionaires an additional 5% to pay for a new health care system?

Agree / Disagree

13. Would you support or oppose an amendment attached to any federal health care bill that clearly bans federal tax dollars from being used to fund abortions?

Support / Oppose

14. It is estimated that 10 million Americans, 3.3% of the U.S. population, are too poor to afford health insurance, yet their income levels are high enough to disqualify them from government-provided health care programs like Medicaid. Should health care reform focus on providing coverage for this 3.3 percent of Americans, or should congress overhaul the entire U.S. health care system.

Focus on covering 3.3% who are perpetually uninsured / Overhaul entire U.S. health care system

I fully realize that it will be a miracle for ObamaCare to be stopped. The best chance is in the Senate but the Democrats have already proven that they are willing to make whatever deals necessary to make it happen with no care or concern about the consequences. The bottom line is they have control. So if it does pass we can hammer them on this as an election issue in 2010, & 2012, remove them from office, and eliminate this monstrosity - much like the dems eliminated welfare reform. ObamaCare will end up being a huge waste of time on the scrapheap of history either way.

I do not know why I am even wasting time worrying about this. I'm just one of those concerned citizens that "doesn't know what is good for me" I only know that there has never been anything controlled by the federal goverment that has worked and I know that we are starting down a scary slide to being taxed beyond reason.
